Bandy-beaked birds, exotic plants and oil lamps crowd richly embroidered panels of silk. You will feel enchanted by the magic of Arabian Nights, but still stand on Saxon soil in the »Blue Salon« of Wildenfels Castle. The wall decoration, which is unique throughout Europe, is presumed to consist of parts of a pompous tent for representation, originating from the Persian-Turkish cultural area, which had come to Wildenfels as spoils of war in 1737. After their elaborate restoration, the silk tapestries are deemed the main attraction of the castle. It goes back to a castle built more than 800 years ago and which has been converted and rebuilt to its present appearance by the Counts zu Solms.
Today, the castle presents itself in the style of the late 18th century. The castle hall with the stove of Meissen porcelain tiles is the perfect backdrop for concerts and lectures. The former ancestors' hall provides a perfect ambience for wedding ceremonies. The permanent exhibition »Court of Muses – Wildenfels Castle« is dedicated to the history of the castle and its surrounding town as well as to the Counts zu Solms-Wildenfels. Further rooms in the north wing of the castle display pieces of contemporary fine arts and tell of both the trade of making ginger-bread and natural-historical knowledge about the Wildenfels Intermountain Area.
