A castle in pastel colors surrounded by the Delitzsch Lake District attracts its visitors by a museum, a Baroque garden and a viewing tower. But the popular travel residence of the Saxon electors holds many a devious story.
In case a princess should beget a child with her lover, European high nobility knew only few scruples. The illegitimate daughter of Henriette Charlotte Duchess of Saxe-Merseburg was passed to a wet nurse after her birth and removed from court. Very soon after, the child died and with it died the last potential female successor to claim the Saxon throne. It is assumed that poison may have been involved.
Today, hardly anything is reminiscent of such sinister intrigues or even the temporary use of the castle as a women's penitentiary. Visitors appreciative of art are invited to admire the prestigious interior at Delitzsch Baroque Castle, whicht has been preserved in its original state to a large extent.
