Schloss Klippenstein
A huntsman’s fortune
Steps for riders would provide their knightly users with a maximum amount of comfort. Especially impressive is the winding stairway on Klippenstein Castle in Radeberg. With its flat wide steps it would allow the noble hunters to comfortably reach their saddle and thus save them from having to carry their weapons and armor by foot.
This well-fortified and romantic castle from the 13th century was converted into a hunting lodge by the prince-elector Moritz in the middle of the 16th century. Since then the historical construction phases have merged in rapid succession here at the foot of castle hill from Classicism to Renaissance and back to the Gothic times. Today a museum dedicated to the history of the castle and the town is housed in Klippenstein Castle.
In the year 2012 the reconstructed castle located close to the Radeberg Export Brewery, which in former times brewed the favorite drink of the Saxon kings and is famous beyond the borders of Saxony, will once again appear in its former shining glory.
