Burgk Castle Freital
Between Art and Coal

Burgk Castle is the jewel of Freital in Saxon Switzerland, surrounded by an idyllic park and proudly housing the municipal collections with paintings and other works of art from the Pappermann Foundation and Dresden-based artists such as Otto Dix. The 500-year history of coal mining in the Doehlen Basin can be experienced at the only mine in Saxony where visitors can see the coal with their own eyes – and mining fans everywhere flock to see »Dorothea«, the world’s first electric mine locomotive. A visit to Burgk Castle is an experience for the whole family with an adventure playground, a castle park with ancient trees, exclusive special exhibitions and the Rotkopf-Goerge monument. You can round off your trip by enjoying the homemade specialties at Schlosscafé Buddenhagen. The Banquet Hall in the main building and the two event halls provide a glamorous setting for weddings, family celebrations, company anniversaries, concerts and many more special occasions.
