The defiant structure of Voigtsberg Castle takes visitors back in time. It was first owned by the bailiffs of Strassberg and Plauen before serving as an electoral office for the House of Wettin. The castle still impresses visitors to this day with sacred works of art in the Gothic St. George’s Chapel, a magnificent baroque ceiling in the Schoesserstube, and the carefully preserved architecture of the Knights’ and Princes’ Hall. The highlight of the exhibition is a valuable Titian painting. Voigtsberg Castle is even used as a wedding venue. Oelsnitz Carpet Museum at Voigtsberg Castle presents the Vogtland’s 140-year carpet weaving tradition. The treasure chamber in the historic vaulted cellar houses a mineral vault with 400 minerals from the Saxon Vogtland.
