Glauchau Castle near Zwickau features late-Gothic architecture and one of the oldest museums in Saxony. The former castle was built by the Lords of Schoenburg at the end of the 12th century. They were members of the aristocracy and used the medieval castle as a manor house. Three hundred years later, the castle was converted into a residential castle with late-Gothic arched curtain windows, ogival portals, a banquet hall and a castle chapel. The museum, founded in 1884, has been presenting the history of Glauchau and its castle, the everyday life of weavers and stately interiors since 1940. Two other exhibitions are devoted to the fine arts, life and works of Georgius Agricola, the founding father of mineralogy.
