Absolute luxury

Situated at the heart of Dresden‘s historic Old City, flanked on one side by the world-famous Zwinger and on the other by the Residential Palace, is an establishment about the resurrection of which so many people had doubts. Originally built by Augustus the Strong in 1705 as a gift for his mistress Anna Constantia Imperial Countess von Cosel, and comprehensively extended after she was exiled, Taschenberg Palais was almost completely destroyed in the inferno of the bombing in February 1945.

For almost 50 years afterwards, blackened walls were the only reminder of the former splendor of the Baroque city residence. But in 1995 was opened the Taschenberg Palais, which today is considered one of the most beautiful luxury hotels in Germany, and is evidence of the ability to combine modern structures with protected monuments.

That work of the great Saxon court builder Matthaeus Daniel Poeppelmann built on a small hill - the Taschenberg, by the banks of the Elbe, arose in its old splendor, despite those who would have quite happily seen it disappear into history.

Today this grand hotel, which is close to the Church of Our Lady and the Semper Opera House, is once again a place where tourists from all over the world can make, for a short time, a ”home away from home“, and at the right place to find the spirit of old Dresden. The people of Dresden themselves love to visit the hotel, especially in winter, when they can skate on an ice rink which is probably the most beautiful in Germany, in the inner courtyard.
