The 6th Saxon Citrus Days put into their focus the special importance of the Saxon gardens and their precious collections of plants in the past and present.
The aesthetic qualities of the orangery culture can be experienced wonderfully at the Grosssedlitz Baroque Garden. The garden with its two representative historical orangeries and healthy stock of bitter orange trees, which is unrivaled in Germany, is an ideal location for an event centering around this topic.
An exhibition will draw attention to various aspects of orangery culture. The precious collections of rare plants and their overwintering houses ranked highly in the court culture and art.
Furthermore, a selection of citrus species is presented to illustrate how widely the vary, which is interesting and surprising for experts and laymen alike. This wide range of species can be traced back to the passion of Baroque princes to collect them and to the gardeners’ skills – it has certainly not resulted from modern-day genetic engineering.
At the sales fair, the traders put on display exquisite goods with reference to the topic of orangery, citrus or gardening – be it orange plants, garden tools, citrus specialties, books on gardening and much more.
