Bridging regions and nations
Our castle managers give the castles, palaces and gardens in Schloesserland Sachsen new perspectives to weave a future from the past.

Andrea Dietrich has been working at SBG gGmbH since 1993. She’s looked after Weesenstein Castle for the past 13 years and the Grosssedlitz Baroque Garden since 2014. She might have been a newcomer to the profession after studying humanities, but she soon got to grips with business plans and budgets.

Job Profile – Castle Manager: Keeping monuments alive
As a castle manager, her job is to preserve monuments and pass them on to the next generation as a living universe. Andrea Dietrich not only has to keep a watchful eye over the museum at Weesenstein Castle, but also the restaurant, brewery, mill and eight rented castle apartments.

A joint passion for Saxony’s castles
Andrea Dietrich has managed to re-orientate Weesenstein Castle towards tourists: She launched a cross-border EU cooperation project to mark the 600th anniversary of the enfeoffment of the castle to the von Buenau family, who also owned Děčin Castle. She managed to restore the original interior with around four million euros in funding and donations. Andrea Dietrich not only organized exhibitions, conferences and publications; she also launched Czech language courses for the staff at Weesenstein Castle and medieval festivals to celebrate the life of the von Buenau family.
